James Mize (b. 1998) Is an entirely self-taught multidisciplinary artist from Tongva Land; Southern California. His practice is rooted in the exploration of ‘lived experience’. Deeply curious about the natural world, grounded in realism the artist’s work is an evolving reflection of the unfolding occurrences and personal experiences around - through varying changing themes of awakenings, emotions, sexuality, gender identity, dreams and the ever-evolving perception of the self.

As a form of intuitive expression, the artis invites viewers to absorb his work through the beauty of both subject, role and form. By tuning into this vulnerability, the artist invites others into a state of non-judgmentally; feeling, remembering, becoming. ‍ ‍

James enjoys predominately studying and depicting environmental subjects, our friends who were here long before us alongside our feet; Animalia. Whist in education for Art History and obtained an online certificate in Entomology, his ultimate aim is to further knowledge grasped of our direct environment, whilst examining how mankind formulated their intuitive depictions of recording their own historical narratives! Expressive feelings and lived experiences foretold through more traditional practices before the invention of modernized outlets, technology and materials we choose to utilize today.
